Job Description

The Role:

Crafty is seeking a senior developer with experience in Ruby on Rails to join our rapidly growing team! We are looking to add to our group of close-knit developers and product designers who work to automate and streamline the day to day needs of both our internal processes and clients needs. We’re building out internal API’s, internal tools, client facing dashboards, purchasing/recommendation algorithms, reporting capabilities...you name it, we’re finding a way to build it. Our team is organized into user focused pods each with their own dedicated product and engineering resources. We’re looking for someone who is ready and excited to lead! Responsibilities will include day to day development, making larger engineering design decisions along with managing, growing and mentoring other engineers on the team.

We believe that code should be deployed as soon as it’s tested, so you can look to have an impact immediately. Unit testing is very important to us because it allows us to catch errors early through continuous integration. Our development team works closely with our product team to assure that new stories are properly vetted before stories are passed into the development cycle. Because of the rapidly growing nature of our business, we are an agile workshop that views prioritization as the key to our success. Stories are vetted through our prioritization and design process so that by the time a ticket falls on your shoulders, you can expect proper definitions to be in place.

We take individual and team growth very seriously here, as our team is highly collaborative, supportive, and constantly learning about the latest technologies.

Who we are:

Crafty’s mission is to help companies craft better workplaces by providing the services and technology to deliver a modern, comprehensive food & beverage program for their employees, no matter where they work.  After operating with a vertically integrated supply chain (i.e., directly fulfilling orders from Crafty-operated distribution centers) in Chicago and the Bay Area, our team launched a third party fulfillment model that has rapidly scaled our coverage into over 25 markets globally, in just a year’s time.

At Crafty, we have a diverse, high-powered team, comprised of folks in technology, supply chain operations, field operations, sales, account management, and more. Our workplace is dynamic, fast-paced, and just plain fun; we pride ourselves in having an amazing mix of humans who make up our team!

Who we are looking for:

Your experience (preferences, not requirements):

Minimum 5 years experience developing in Ruby on Rails in a professional setting
Full Stack Web Development experience
Experience managing and mentoring engineers
Making decisions regarding long term system infrastructure and design
Direct engagement with product managers and designers
Have worked on codebases using Git (or other similar version control systems)

Your proficiencies:

CSS, HTML, and Javascript web practices
Ruby on Rails
React Native a plus
Writing meaningful unit tests
Expertise in object-oriented design, client-server architecture, and relational database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Prior work with API’s and markup languages (XML, JSON, etc…)
An eye for great UX and an ability to deconstruct how product and engineering decisions affect broader business goals

You are:

Extremely hard working. We are a startup with the mentality that no job is too big or too small for us. You hustle because that’s just how you work.
Extraordinarily organized. Detail-orientation is an absolute must. You have tried-and-true methods in your arsenal for staying organized and on top of it all.
Of high integrity and sound judgment.
Passionate about growth. We have a bright future ahead – which depends on our team’s spirit, morale, and work ethic.
Very good at prioritizing both your time and the time of those around you

Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.

You are considered fully vaccinated:

14 days after your dose of an accepted single-dose vaccine
14 days after your second dose of an accepted 2-dose series
14 days after you've received 2 doses of any "mix-and-match" combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines administered at least 17 days apart.

If you do not meet these requirements, you are NOT considered fully vaccinated.

What we offer:

Our people mean everything to us. When you join Crafty, you’re joining a team of passionate, smart hooligans who work incredibly hard and know how to get things done. Building the structure to support our team as it continues to grow will have a tremendous impact in enabling our growth today and shaping the company that we become.

We are proud to offer a compensation package that includes an option to join our Crafty healthcare plan to cover health, dental, and vision plans, 401k, paid time off, equipment certification courses, and parental leave. And, it goes without saying, but snacks, beverages, and fun Crafty events are a part of that!
