About Your Role

You will be directly involved in the development of Locomation’s automated driving technology. As a senior position on the Test Engineering team, you will be responsible for enabling successful testing and simulation across the system lifecycle. 

About Your Work

Your work will shape the development of Locomation’s first automated driving product. This role is responsible for applying test and product-development skills to help define and guide the development of Locomation’s automated driving technology on our path to delivering products. 

You will help define the product system based on product needs by creating traceable, meaningful artifacts such as testing architectures and models, value-add engineering requirements, and analyses to support efficient engineering development. You will work closely with Developers and Systems Engineering to plan and execute upon testing needs. The quality of your work will create the foundation for downstream engineering development methods such as test integration, verification, validation, and continuous improvement. You will partner with teammates in Product and Design to understand and represent critical needs of the product during use. You will work closely with Safety, Systems, and Operations to safely promote our system through design, production, and launch. And you will partner with Program Management and Development Engineering to land key technologies to our system and enable rapid, impactful developer progress. The impacts of this role will culminate in the delivery of valuable, deployable, industry-defining self-driving products. 

Your success will be enabled through your cross-functional partnerships with Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Program Management, Product, Human Factors and Design, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, and Developmental Fleet & Crew Operations. You will work with engineers throughout the organization to demonstrate the capability of the system through testing. The quality of your work will allow the organization to safely advance the engineered product through design, production, and launch. The impacts of your role will culminate in the delivery of valuable, deployable, industry-defining self-driving products.

About You

  • Quickly develop a strong understanding of Locomation’s systems and underpinning technologies
  • Have a strong background in test engineering including
    • Root Cause Analysis, Design of Experiments
    • Data Analysis, Monte Carlo
    • Verification and Validation
    • Testing Life Cycle
    • Model-Based Design (MIL, SIL, HIL, etc.)
    • Autonomous Vehicle Scenario Generation and Simulation
  • Familiarity with:
    • Maintaining software quality, including integration of new features and release and regression testing
  • Create, use, and maintain meaningful work products that bring lasting value to the organization
  • Support product program success through all stages of the product life cycle
  • Have a willingness to travel as needed (e.g. one week at a time, several times a year)
    • 15% travel expected
  • Have, minimally, a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in engineering, robotics, or computer science from an accredited university
  • Have 8+ years of industry experience, 5+ years of test engineering-specific experience

  • Ability to effectively guide the work of others, including technical and operational aspects
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills for project portfolios and work plans
  • Understanding or Knowledge of essential test engineering concepts and skills, such as
    • Scenario generation, simulation, system test, integration, verification and validation, technical risk management, trade studies, change management and impact analyses, performance analyses
  • An ability to apply concepts, frameworks and methodologies, such as:
    • Product development, Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Agile development, Stage-gate development, Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs)
  • A strong understanding of general engineering fundamentals, including:
    • Physics, mathematics, hardware engineering, software development, electronics engineering
  • Proficiency with engineering-relevant tools, such as:
    • TestRail, Jama, Cameo, DOORS, Visio, MATLAB, Simulink
  • Proficiency with simulation tools, such as:
    • TruckSIM, dSPACE, AI Simian, CARLA
  • Familiarity with new and emerging simulation standards, such as:
    • OpenDRIVE, OpenSCENARIO
  • Familiarity with software languages, such as:
    • Python, C++, Yaml, XML

Nice to Haves

  • Understanding of safety-relevant concepts, including:
    • Functional Safety, Reliability, Operational Safety, Fault and Failure Management
  • Familiarity with robotics and/or autonomous or highly-automated systems
  • Understanding of product development
